I read Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials a few months back, and was surprised and impressed by the bravery of both the writing and the subject matter for what are commonly described as children's books. His exploration of religion and the nature of the human soul was complex, and more than a little daring.
And, as with many good books, Hollywood has raised it's head, screamed 'adaptation!' at the top of it's lungs, and chucked a $150 million dollars at a movie based on the first book. We shall see just how brave they are in how closely they stick to the themes of the story.
Anyway, the whole point of this post is to show off my daemon. Pullman's books portray the souls of people as manifestations of animals, and on the movie's promotional web site, there's a 'build you own daemon' flash widgety thing. Answer twenty questions and you get yourself your very own daemon.
And here's mine. (After you make a few judgements on my choice of answers, that is.)
It was a fox-thing when I originally did it, but apparently it changes with people's assessment of my responses to those questions.
I suppose I should be grateful that it isn't a ferret, or a newt ...
Actually, I kind of like newts (and my last name is not Finknottle), and I suppose ferrets aren't half bad either ...
Guess what ... it's changed to an albino ferret now. Sometimes coincidence truly frightens me.
